Our Name

Our name is an excerpt from a quote by John Cage speaking on the joys of mushroom foraging:

"In woods, we're mislead by leaves or play of sunlight; driving along, we sometimes stop, park, and get out, only to discover it's a football or a piece of trash. Learning from such experiences isn't what we do."

John Cage is primarily known as a maverick composer and philosopher but he was also an avid mushroom expert. Amazingly, Cage was sharing his deep knowledge with the public and foraging mushrooms to sell to New York City Chefs all the way back in the 1950’s.
